About DANCEnergy

DANCEnergy is based in Mangawhai providing tuition in Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary. Our aim at DANCEnergy is for students to learn to dance in a professional and positive environment while feeling challenged and encouraged. DANCEnergy aims for all our students to enjoy coming to class and to develop a love for dance.
Lisa Johnson - ARAD RTS, DIP in Dance Performance

Lisa Johnson started dancing at age four, training in Christchurch under Beryl Hatherley and then Sarah Boocock in Auckland. At 15 Lisa won a scholarship from Lincoln Summer School in Christchurch to train for two weeks full-time at the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne. It was here Lisa decided she wanted to dance full-time as a career.
Lisa studied Royal Academy of Dancing Ballet gaining her RAD Advanced 2 examination and American Jazz Affiliation Advanced Examination during her training in Auckland and Christchurch.
At 16 Lisa was successful in auditioning for The New Zealand School of Dance in Wellington and commenced a three year NZQA Diploma in Dance Performance specialising in Classical and Contemporary dance. Lisa was awarded a scholarship for her third year at the New Zealand School of Dance.
Upon graduating from the New Zealand School of Dance, Lisa moved to London to and gained full-time employment with Michael Clark Dance Company. She premièred work for Michael Clark throughout Europe and England, performing in front of some of the dance world's biggest icons like Mikhail Baryshnikov. Lisa was part of the company's week long performances at the famous Saddlers Wells theatre in London as part of the world renowned Dance Umbrella.
After meeting her husband Jeff, in London, Lisa and Jeff decided to return to NZ and have since had two boys, Brock and Vann.
In 2020 Lisa became a Registered RAD teacher after completing her Certificate in Ballet Studies through Royal Academy of Dance.
